SCHOOL-BASED AND HOUSING-BASED PROGRAMS
"I Have A Dream" programs take two basic forms: a school-based program and a public housing-based program. The majority of our Dreamer cohorts follow the traditional school-based program model. School-based partners sponsor an entire cohort of Dreamers from the same grade (K- grade 2), and follow the Dreamers all the way to college. Oftentimes, Dreamers who are sponsored together at the same elementary school will often attend numerous intermediate and high schools, and they will gather for "I Have A Dream" programming at a local community-based organization or space within one of the Dreamer schools.
In recent years, some "I Have A Dream" affiliates have launched housing-based programs with the support of local housing authorities across the country. In housing-based programs, we sponsor an entire same-age cohort of Dreamers from a public housing development. No matter where the Dreamers attend school, they connect with the "I Have A Dream" program and one another in their home community. "I Have A Dream" partners with local municipal public housing authorities to provide program space.
